Demand for Coated and Plated Coils Remains Largely Unchanged
In July, the automotive market found growth drivers in lower-tier cities and intelligent driving technology, while home appliance and air conditioning sectors saw volume and price recovery due to high temperatures and policy support, with leading companies further expanding their advantages. Under policy guidance, both sectors have entered a period of structural adjustment.
Recent domestic high temperatures and rainy weather have adversely impacted downstream demand. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector in July was 49.3%, down 0.4 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a decline in manufacturing activity. Demand for coated and plated coils in downstream industries is expected to experience a slight decrease next month.
Supply of Coated and Plated Coils Primarily Increases
According to a SteelHome survey of 42 domestic steel mills, there are 117 galvanized coil production lines, with 109 currently operational, representing a line-based operating rate of 93.16%, remaining stable compared to June.
The total surveyed galvanized coil production capacity is 39.614 million tons, with 34.239 million tons in operation, reflecting a capacity-based operating rate of 86.43%, up 0.3 percentage points from June. The average daily weekly output was 84,912 tons, an increase of 400 tons from the previous month.
For color-coated coils, a SteelHome survey of 33 domestic steel mills shows 75 production lines, with 72 currently operational, representing a line-based operating rate of 96%, unchanged from June. The total surveyed color-coated coil production capacity is 11.1 million tons, with 10.704 million tons in operation, reflecting a capacity-based operating rate of 96.43%, stable compared to June. The average daily weekly output was 26,454 tons, unchanged from the previous month.
Price trend of galvanized and color-coated steel in August It is expected that the domestic market price of coated and plated sheet and coil will rise by 50 yuan per ton next month.
